Inside and Outside Bets in Roulette

To become an excellent roulette player, you must know to bet and the rules to follow in placing bets. As we already know, the two kinds of roulette bets are the inside and the outside bets. To be a winner in roulette, you must know the kinds of bets, how to place these bets, their characteristics and their payback odds.

The inside bets in roulette are located in the area with the numbers or the internal area of the roulette table. The straight-up bet is a roulette bet with a 35-to-1 payback rate where you simply select any of the 37 numbers available and place your chips on the number you have chosen. The split bet can be made by betting on two different consecutive numbers. You simply place your chips between the two numbers you have chosen. If either of the two numbers win, you are paid 17-to-1.

Street bets are just like the split bets, only that you place bets on three consecutive numbers, instead of two. To make a street bit, you place your chips outside the edges of the three numbers chosen. If any of the three numbers show up, you are paid 11-to-1.

The outside bets in roulette are bets located on the "outside" part of the roulette table. Here are the kinds of outside bets in roulette:

The color bet (black or red) is the most popular outside bet in roulette. In this bet, you can choose between the black number or the red number. To put your bet, simply place your chips on the red or black areas at the front area of the roulette board. You have a 50% chance of winning in this bet.

The even and the odd bets, on the other hand, works just like the black or red bet, except that you place your bets on either an even or an odd number. There are 18 numbers in each bet, ranging from 1-36, since 0 is not counted. The high or low bet in roulette allows you to bet on a specific range of numbers, either from 1-18 or from 19-36. Just place your bets in the areas marked with the number ranges.

The dozen bet is an outside bet with a 2-to-1 payout rate that allows you bet on a set of dozen numbers (1-12, 13-24 and 25-36). To make a dozens bet, put your chips on the areas usually marked with the words "1st 12","2nd 12", and "3rd 12".

Similar to the dozens bet, column bets are made by placing bets on the squares with the words "2 to 1" written on them. Column bets have the same payout rate as the dozen bets.

Always remember that you must also learn how to place bets on both the inside and outside bets to be able to play an excellent roulette game. Good luck!
