So You Want to be Famous

What makes one famous in the gambling world? Is it your riches, your dedication to the game or the way you died?

Any of these ways can lead you to stardom in the world of gambling. Take Kerry Packer for example. Kerry packer is one of the richest men on earth, and is also one of the most famous gambling players. Why? This is because he always played in gambling games with high stakes. Records show that he had lost the biggest amount in gambling history, but he had also won lots of millions through gambling.

Right from the very start, Kerry Packer was already rich, coming from a wealthy family. However, he got obscenely rich once he won millions and millions in gambling. You think he should stop because he had already hit the jackpot, but those millions did not stop him. The money even encouraged him to join high stakes gambling. Casinos already banned him from playing blackjack because he always bet huge amounts of money, and the casinos could not afford his price anymore. At present, he owns magazine companies and numerous television networks, which just prove how rich he has become because of gambling.

Another rich person who has become famous in gambling world is Joh Aspinall. Like Packer, John came from a rich family. However, he ventured not into playing gambling games but in organizing gambling operations which gave him millions of dollars in return. Originally, he was with the marines, then transferred to Oxford where he found his true love, which is gambling.

If you don't have riches, you could still be famous in the gambling industry by dedicating yourself to it. Look at John Montagu, also known as Earl of Sandwich. Earl was known for his undying dedication to the craft of gambling that he skipped meals just to play. His popularity kicked in when he "invented" the sandwich, hence his name Earl of Sandwich. Because he had no time for full course meals, he preferred having the meat placed in between two breads, which was peculiar at that time. This was the beginning of what we know today as sandwich.

A sure sign that you are popular in the gambling world is that if a gambling hand is named after you. This is the case of Wild Bill Hickock who was assassinated while holding a pair of eight's and a pair of Aces, which is known today as Dead Man's Hand. He was killed because somebody did not want him to become the Marshall of the town.
